{Tutorial} Fun With Store Bought Icing

Last month I posted a sneak peek photo of a tutorial on Facebook that I was working on for the bloggie.  I have been meaning to add this post for weeks but I will blame it on enjoying some much needed girly time with my daughters since their summer break was coming to an end.  School started back up this week and as promised, I am sharing a quick an easy tutorial using store bought icing. I wanted to put a sweet treat together for my daughter's 6th birthday.  When I asked if she had any requests, she said she wanted pink cupcakes.  I got off to a late start and worked with ingredients I had on hand.  I baked the cupcakes and decided to be creative using store bought icing since I was on a bit of a time crunch.  I sure had fun...maybe too much fun!  I wanted to share with you how I created the swirled icing for the cupcakes.

What you'll need:
Cupcakes
Store bought icing (2 flavors)
Disposable decorating bags
Large decorating tip

Bake cupcakes using the mix from the box or your favorite recipe.

I used pink and white icing and filled each decorating bag a little less than half way full with each color.  Once your bags are filled, gently flatten them and then place them on top of one another. Then, snip about 1/2 inch off each tip of your bags.

Take a third bag and fit it with your decorating tip.  Slide your two bags with icing into your 3rd bag.  Snip off the tip of the third bag.  You are ready to decorate!  This is my favorite cupcake icing guide which is from Glorious Treats.

I had some extra cupcakes and icing left over so I thought I would see what else I could create.  I decided to make a rose using i am baker's handy rose icing tutorial HERE.

 Voila!

  1. This is a great idea! I love that you used store bought icing to make the cupcakes. So easy! The third icing bag is very smart to help combine the colors. Thanks for the tip!
