{Tutorial} Gumball Necklaces - Pretty and Yummy!

As I was shopping for gumballs for the upcoming Let's Set Sail birthday party, I spotted these amazing necklaces on Pinterest.   I thought making them would be the perfect summer activity to do with my two girls.  They are all about dressing up so why not dress up your outfit with colorful necklaces too!  I found the tutorial created by A Blissful Nest on one of my favorite blogs Project Nursery and thought it would be fun to share with you.  Looks like I will be ordering more gumballs than I thought!

Here is what you will need:

1. Colorful gumballs
2. Ribbon
3. Metal skewers
4. Embellishments like flowers and ribbons (optional)

 Step 1

 Take your metal skewer and puncture holes in your gumballs.

 Step 2

Wrap the end of your ribbon with tape, and thread ribbon through the gumball.

That’s it! You’re done.

 

The necklaces are pretty as is.  Flowers were purchased  from the Martha Stewart section of Michaels and attached them for extra embellishment. You can also tie a big ribbon bow on the side or add additional flowers.

{Tutorial} Tissue Wrapped Flower Favors

I want to share with you how I created flower favors made from tissue paper.  They were super easy to make and they turned out beautifully. They would be the perfect favors for weddings, baby showers, bridal luncheons and more.  The tissue wrapped flowers would add a fabulous touch to any table!

What you'll need:

Tissue paper in an assortment of colors

Mini bubble bottles or similar

clear tape

scissors

ribbon 

1. For the inner layer of your flower, take a piece of tissue paper and fold in half. 

1. 
   
   2. Then fold accordion style following the pre-made lines.

3. Cut paper horizontally in the middle so that you will now have two squares of tissue paper.

4. Take one of the squares and create petal shapes by cutting rounded edges at the top of your square.

5. Unfold your tissue paper and lay on a flat surface.  

Place a bubble bottle on the edge of the tissue paper with the bottom about 1/2 inch from the straight edge.

6. Place a piece of tape to keep paper in place.  Fold in the tissue paper on the bottom as though wrapping a gift and add tape to secure.

7. Repeat steps 4 - 6 with the tissue paper that will be the outside of your flower.

8.  Add a piece of ribbon and tie around the neck of the bubble bottle.

9.  Gently pull the tissue layers down to open your flower.

Voila!

Aloha Summer Party Details & FREE Printable!

The party decor for the Aloha Summer birthday party didn't start at the dessert table but rather at the front door.  I made a colorful wreath using a Styrofoam ring and placed cocktail umbrellas all around it. Then, I added a matching ribbon and hung it on our front door. The guests were welcomed with leis and hula skirts to wear.   

I made hair clips from a flower bouquet I purchased at a dollar store that I added to tree branches I found from our yard which made the perfect centerpiece for our family room.  Girls chose their favorite flower clip to go along with their aloha accessories.

I styled our console table in our foyer by adding a welcome sign to greet the guests and it also served as the place to hold the favors for the party guests.

  I placed white frames with pictures of the girls on the table.  Using a flower punch, I punched flowers from papers in the birthday party colors and used "pop stickers" to add them to the frame.  To add a fun touch, I embellished each flower with a piece of candy.

I found beach pails for a dollar each at Michaels that made for the perfect containers to hold the loot for the favors.  The dollar store also had packages of bubbles for a dollar and I thought they would be cute to wrap the bottle wrappers around them from the Aloha printable collection.  At the store, I also found water squirt toys that I placed in the pails.  

Included in the favor pails were Christina from Cookies Are My Canvas' beautiful cookies. The favors were adorned with the Aloha Summer favor tags that I made using my favorite craft punch.

Last but not least, I added flowers that I made from tissue paper.  They were super easy to make and they turned out beautifully.  Tutorial coming soon!

Activities for the party consisted of coloring hibiscus flowers and beach themed coloring pages, a paper leis craft station (tutorial coming soon), hula lessons and a tiki piñata.

Formatted for an 8.5 x 11 sheet with 12 squares.

Print on heavy card stock, matte photo paper or 8.5 x 11 full size label sheets to make stickers. Cut to make squares or use 1 7/8” and 2” circle and scallop circle paper punches.
