I have always wanted to learn how to sew.   I have friends that create the most adorable outfits for their little ones and I so wished that I could do the same.  When my sweet husband purchased a sewing machine for me, I looked for a store that offered simple patterns that I could follow without getting frustrated.  I came across a shop on Etsy called Whimsy Couture and fell in love with the sweet outfits.  I ordered a few patterns and was amazed at how easy it was to sew using Denise's patterns.  I love making little skirts, dresses and more for Annabelle and Madeleine.  It is fun to find a cute fabric and then turning it into that they can actually wear.  It is rewarding knowing that I can actually make them something to wear and it doesn't fall apart after I wash it.

Denise learned sewing in Home EC in Germany where she was born and grew up. She loved it ever since and when her son was born she discovered how much fun it was to make baby clothes and things. Then after the birth of her daughter, she started drafting her own patterns.  After she took a pattern making class she was hooked and started making more and more patterns.

What inspires you? "Everything! I love vintage things, whimsical things, colorful things, really everything. My designs are a bit European and a bit vintage inspired. I love making easy to sew patterns for moms that don't have much time. "

I am SO excited to share my latest collection with you.  With February around the corner, there is no better time to start planning all the details for your Valentine's Day party and more! This collection would make any childrens' or adult's Valentine's party so unique and festive. Colors used within this collection are light pink, warm pink, grays and silver along with damask and polka dot patterns to give a whimsical touch.

I had a custom order request to create coordinating candy stickers for the So Sweet party decor.  What a simple and fun way to add a fun touch to your favorite candy.  Add some color to your way of displaying candy.  Makes for a fun party favor! 

 

Print on 8 1/2 x 11 inch inkjet sticker paper.
Use (.75) 3/4" craft circle punch.
Simply print, cut, punch and add to such candies as Hershey Kisses, Rolos and Reeses Mini Peanut Butter Cups.

When I offered the 2011 printable calendar, I enjoyed reading everyone's responses via email. One email that caught my eye was from Sassy Talk. I wanted to learn what the name was all about. I came upon a store with the most beautiful handmade creations. Dawn is the owner of Sassy Talk which specializes in vinyl lettering, personalized and holiday crafts, home decor and more! Most of Dawn's designs can be personalized with various colors, fonts and sizes.

Why the name…Sassy Talk?

One day when my boys were using bad sayings (you know the dreaded words a mom never wants to hear, i.e. stupid, hate, I’m telling on you…) I would simply say, “Don’t use that Sassy Talk”. The phrase became all too common around our house...and seemed appropriate for our vinyl lettering/home craft decor business.

I say “our” vinyl business, since it’s definitely a family affair. My husband, Curt cuts the wood and vinyl, our boys help pick out 2 x 4’s and I do the embellishing, “blinging,” designing and decorating.

The pink, chocolate and polka dots allow me to get my girly fix…since I am out numbered 3 to 1 by “boys” in our house.

When I was decorating my daughter's nursery, I wanted to create a very serene and soothing room for her. I chose lavender and light blue as the color palette. When looking for an art print I found the sweetest creation by Ashley of Pure Innovation. The adorable birdie print was the perfect touch for Madeleine's nursery and one of my favorite items in her room.

How you started?

Hmmm that's a good question! I would have to say I started shortly after my first son was born. I am an artist and graphic designer who quickly learned I was desperately in need of an outlet to be creative while at home...and I decided to open my online shop and at home studio. I tend to have that proverbial fire in my belly and with it, that innate desire to create. I started, and then stopped...two more times after that, as two more children were added to the crazy mix. The journey in motherhood and that gigantic balancing act called life can be challenging, to say the least. I think I finally fell into my niche, in January of last year. I guess you can say it's been full speed ahead since then! (When I'm not changing dirty diapers, that is...)

What inspires you?

Everything. {ha!} Color. Photography. Fashion. Beautiful Interiors. Unusual combinations of texture and color. Fabrics. Paintings. My own children. Magazines and Book covers. Shoes. Well written pieces. Anthropologie window displays.
