My dearest and oldest friend Virginia has started a new venture. She is so talented in so many ways. From being musically inclined and learning how to play new instruments along the way to having an incredible eye for photography. Virginia turned her hobby and love of photography into a business called Virginia Oxford Photography.

The photographs she captures are candid and so beautiful. She specializes in taking photographs of children, animals and life in general. She is grossly talented and that is matched equally with her incredible kindness.

Virginia was sweet to answer some questions about her journey into photography for me.

What type of pictures do you try and capture?

I’m a strong believer in natural, un-posed, candid photography…capturing children and families in their "natural habitat", if you will. And I think, whether they know it or not, people like and want photos of themselves and their children just being happy. I think there is something that affects us in a profound way when we look back on photographs of ourselves caught in a moment of natural joy and I feel it’s hard to capture that kind of moment in forced poses in a foreign studio, under false light.
How you started in photography?

    What inspires you?
I’m inspired a lot by movies, especially the ones which are so beautifully shot, each individual frame could be a photograph all by itself. You’ll see that a lot in films by Ang Lee, Martin Scorsese and Spike Lee. Most of their films sit well with me, from a photographic standpoint. I'm also inspired by photographers who know how to use the camera to create abstract or haunting images. Keith Carter is one such photographer. I love him.
What are you most proud of with your work?
I’ve gotten a couple of emails from parents saying my photos of their children made them cry, which is intensely rewarding to hear…not to sound cliché.
Where have your pictures been featured?
I took some cute photos last year of a little boy and his labradoodle puppy. The breeder from whom the family got the dog liked the photos so much they asked to feature them on their site at http://www.labradoodlebaby.com/. And my lovely friend Kirby Legate was sweet enough to not only feature me on her amazing website’s blog, but also use a couple of my photos in her holiday card display section of the site at www.petitealma.com. One of my photos is being used as the main splash page for Shoeshine Charey’s Big Top Lounge (one of my favorite dive bars in Houston!) Check it out at www.bigtoplounge.com.
